Finally I finished my project B assignment for my networked media class. I spent alot of time doing it and the result turned out really worth my time. The thing I want to mention in my post for this week is our tutorial. As we all know tutorials are all the same and sometimes can be really boring. However our tutorial is unique. We had awesome people in our class, also we had probably the best tutor in town who's really cool and could keeps interest from everyone. I must say I didnt study really hard. Sometime I went on facebook instead of doing the exercise which out tutor provided for us. However I love this networked media class, my friends in there and our tutor. Everything mixes together and become gooodromance <3

Project B Rationale

At first when I needed to choose between doing Data visualization and geo-narrative, it took me a while. I did some research about data visualization and also looked up for some good examples on internet. It seemed pretty interesting and very challenging. However at this stage I had no clue how to make one. Also I didnt have much time for this project so I did not want to risk anything. I moved to geo narrative. 'It's quite simple' was my thought at first. Nevertheless it just seemed like it. It's more complex and challenging than what I first thought. However it's also not too difficult for me to make one up. I just needed to make sure I spend enought time and put alot of effort doing this great piece of work.

At first I discussed with my mate who chosed to do the same thing. We came up with lots of great and interesting ideas. In the unit outline it said that we could do an essay-like argument, a documentary account or historical recreation, or a photographic tour. However I was not keen to do something like that because it sounds boring to me, and I dont want my audiences to get bored of it either. I wanted to do something fun and interesting. So I decided to a fictional story which would have interesting storyline.

I spent alot of time thinking of some ideas for the story. I wanted to make a comedy story so I talked about it with my friends and shared our great and funny live experiences. Also I went on internet to do some researh about stories writing. I went on yahoo to looked up some for great example of stories from people around the world. Pity there were not many of good ones. Most people just come and write complaining about their lives. Anyway google is my real friend. I looked up some funny stories on google. I eventually came up with this great story of one guy who is getting laid for the first time. He doesnt know anything about it so he goes to see the doctor and asks for the advices. At night he goes to his girl's place and turn out the doctor is his girl's daddy. The original story itself is pretty funny. However I added more charactor in it to make it even more interesting and funnier.

After I finished writting the story. I started pinning the map and adding the story in each one. I chosed the location in Canberra because it's where we live. Also I think it would be more interesting since the story happens in our native town. Also I took the pictures by myself with my digital camera. I didnt actually go to take photos on the location on the map. SInce I dont have a car it's really hard for me to go around Canberra. However I set up the scenes in university which looks similar to the place in the map. For example this scene when the charactor is at the pub. I didnt actually go to the pub but I went to the cafe area in university and picked the good spot for taking photos. It turned out look as if the picture was actually taking in the pub (for people who dont go to UC and havent been to the cafe area before it will even look more realistic.) Then when I got all the photos. I also used this Photoshop program which gave me a chance to edit and play around with contrass and colour to make my works look better. Here's the example:



As you can see the picture looks fine. However I decided to edit the colour and contrass abit to make it look even better



Now the image looks more interesting. After I finished editing all of my images. I uploaded them on Flickr. I chosed Flickr because its a very popular and reliable website where we can store and share our images for free. Also in my introduction to media production class we learnt about Flickr aswell so I think its the best to use this website. When I finished uploading my images I added them all to my google map by following the instruction on google website. Also I added some videos which related to the story. At first I had some problems adding them to my map, but after I had a chat with my tutor. She showed me how to do it and then I could do it without any problems. I also added some related links to my map aswell. For example there's a scene where the main charactor is going to meet his girlsfriend's dad. In that section I added the link to the article " what to do when ur meeting her dad". Its basically tell you how you should do & talk to the girls dad when you in the sitcation where you meeting him. haha pretty funny I know :P

Finally I have done all the work. I think my work is pretty good and very unique since I used google maps in the different way; presenting and telling story instead of just looking for the place to go or some academic stuffs. Also the story links itself to the culture that happens in this town Canberra and also what happens in the reality. If I had abit more time to do this project. I would make it even better by firstly I would go to the actual places in the story and take pictures for each scene. Secondly I would spend abit more time on the storyline. Eventhough I think its prety good, however Im pretty sure i could add abit more stuffs in it. The last thing is I would organise and manage to make up my own videos instead of youtube videos.

first thing want to mention in this week blog is I JUST TURNED 19 on Wednesday!!!! hahaha happy birthday to myself. I was so happy :D alot of my friends came to see me at uni and at night i went to have dinner with this chick ;) sooo good
Back to our business sigh as I said I choose to do that geo-narrative thing on google. This week I finished like 50% of it? I have my story done and already put it on each destination. It's quite tricky since it's not just stick the point on the map and put random stuffs in. I have to make sure the destination points are in the correct spots. Also the story must be interesting ortherwise people who read it will get bored easily and dont feel like to read it anymore. So I spent alot of time making up this awesome story. It's a comedy story and also comes with the twist at the end so I hope people would enjoy reading it :)
After adding the story into the map, now i need to put some nice pictures, videos and links that related to the story in each destination. I plan to drive around and take the pictures during the weekends so I'm just trying to put videos into my map for now. At first I had abit of problems with puting the videos in. However I spoke to Sharron my tutor and she showed me how to do it so it's all good and I just spent the whole thursday night looking at the videos on youtube and put them into my map. I also added some links that I reckoned they are related to the story and might be useful to the reader in aswell.
Thats pretty much what I did for this week since I had to go party hard! hahaah xox

GooodRomance World Tour

Hey baby!

This week we had no lecture, however there're some good stuff s going on still. Firstly the new Project B assignment is so interesting. In the tutorial we had a look at these website that show the awesome examples of data visualizations. They are really good stuffs honestly, however I HAD no idea how to do one man geez. Anyway thx god the second choice of our project is google map stuffs. At first i read it i was like what's this man why sounds so easy, then my tutor showed us how it exactly is and what do we need to do then i realised thats heaps of work to do. Basically we have to make up a story and use google map as a narrator, also we have to link the place together and put some nice pictures and videos. Thats so much fun for me so I prefer to do that as my assignment. Im thinking to do GooodRomance World tour. Basically its gonna be about how i go pick up different chicks all around the world and i will put some photos and videos on it haha this is gonna be fun!!!
I started to do my assignment straight away after I decided what I want to do. First thing I started to think about the story. It's very hard because I must be really creative thinking about the plot. Since it's like a book and there will be alot of texts and pictures I don't want to make something that too informative and will make the audiences feel boring. So I prefered the story to be about something interesting and fun rather than just telling boring story.
I could'n't really think of anything in my tutorial because there was too much distraction. Well I just went on google map sections and watched the videos about how do we create our own maps. It seemed pretty easy and looked fun. I also signed up for gmail since I need it when I log in to make my map. So when I arrive home I would have everything ready to go without struggling looking where to start :)

It's time to change

I was sick on tuesday so i didnt go to the lecture, I heard it's awesome and everyone was clapping at the end. Thanks Michael Honey I will miss u so much <3

In my tutorial we had to do some research about data visualization. Its something like a whole bunch of information of anything. Instead of showing to audience in all full boring text, how it represent itself is much more interesting. I went to some good websites that show the example of some good data visaulizations. They are pretty interesting and very easy to undestand. I also looked up in the list of 50 great data visualizations . It gave me some ideas about what I should do for my Project B assignment.

At the end of the class, each person had to talk about what they found infront of the class. I came up with this ARC. Basically its a data visualization that stocks the information in Digg.com. (Digg.com is like where people post all the stuffs that their like on the site and share to the world.) Its kinda boring just go in there reading column and there are heaps of text. So some smart guys invented this awesome stuffs to make reading and finding aritcle much easier and more interesting.

After the tutorial i had a little chat with my mates and we realised that we should go through each post of each week in out blogs and add some more information. Its a good idea since i've been writting abt hot asian chicks. Well anyway i will start doing that after i finish my essay..sigh

Pimp ma City!

Sup baby,
I had a really intense week. Studying, working, problems with girls etc. You know...same old stuffs. Cant help it, Im the man here, just like how Uncle Ben is Spider Man said "With great power comes great responsibility" :P
Anyway, back in business. Due to in the lecture we learnt stuffs about multiplicity, how people create ideas that use multiplicity and collective intelligence. So in the tutorial we had to team up and talk about it. My group came up with this "Pimp My city" idea. Basically its all about this website will accept the construction plan which designed by people. When they are submitted in to the database then people can vote for the best ones. Those good ones will make in to the finalists where the architects can come and have a look. Also it will be transformed into 3D version. The benefits of this ideas are people can share the ideas with others and give away the chances to be creative. Also it's easy and useful for people who want to find some great designs of buildings. The problem was it would cost so much money to do it. $$$
Back in to the lecture and I must say. We saw this Ted.com stuff and it was awesome. This guy was presenting this new technology about keeping newspaper/ magazine in one database. With that quality of definetion and number of information, Damn baby he made me amazed!!!

Holidays over. Now im back to where I belonged, "University Of Canberra". The only uni in Canberra where ppl who know 'how to get ladies' go to. I had so much fun in Sydney. Clubbing in Oxford & Kingscross, and picked up some hot Chinese chicks in China town...
Screw my love life now Im back in business. I spent most of the time on Tuesday studying for Chinese which im going to have test real soon. In the lecture today Michael Honey talked about web2.0. It's the new generation of websites these days. It makes very nice and cooler pattern, something that cute shiny and slidy :P then we learnt about Metcalfes laws which is:

It's preety much like more people using the service, then it will become more and more popular.
Then we moved to Twistori, where u can see some funny status update out of Twitter. I laughed at all those status update which keeps coming up. Later on he moved to Google Trends. This is the most interesting thing I've ever seen in my life. I could have spent the whole day just to compare things haha. Also we laern about this google filter, it is how when you search something in google and the whole list of the websites come up. The most important and useful website will come up first, this is called page rank.
After that I had this 10 pages of Chinese test in the evening. It's pretty easy or maybe its just me who's pro :P Now all of you can see what's the benefits of getting chinese chicks.
